IN CONCERT ADDENDUM TWO

IN CONCERT ADDENDUM TWO : Officially there was only one Beatles live album and that was 'The Beatles Live At The Hollywood Bowl" but that CD somehow, was frowned upon by the lads ( it was released during the 70's when John Lennon was still very much alive ) so it was never released on CD. I loved that record for the sheer excitement it generate. The shouting and shrieks of thousands of adolescent girls could hardly cause the music to be listenable but nevertheless I loved it. The foreword by George Martin alone is worth the price of the album. Anyway, since that album was not available on CD so I guess this CD will just have to do. Recorded during the height of Beatlemanic with almost identical song list, this set serves as a very poor substitute for the far superior CD that was not available. This set suffered greatly without the mastery of George Martin's magic touch. After having gone through this torturous CD, I regretfully concluded that this is the first ever CD that bears The Beatles' name that I am tempted to ask for my money back. Yeah, it is that bad. Definitely not for first timer.

Disc 1
THE EMPIRE POOL, WEMBLY
Intro : Consist of someone introducing The Beatles and some fine tuning of the guitars and then the applause.

I Feel Fine ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Quite faithful to the originally recording but the sound system is atrocious to say the least. I much rather hears the screaming from the audience..

She's A Woman ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Like the above, quite faithfully done except for the instrumental part where it was slightly different.

Baby's In Black ( Lennon / McCartney ) : The sound again is uneven. Sometimes louder on the side and softer on the other.

Ticket To Ride ( Lennon / McCartney ) : John seems to be enjoying himself here.

Long Tall Sally (  Johnson / Penniman / Blackwell ) : Funny how the boys like to introduce each and every songs before they sang it. Something which Paul didn't seems to do in his solo concerts or was it edited off.

Outro : Consists of screaming girls and a voice thanking the audiences for their attending the concert.

THE TEATRO ADRIANO, ROME - 1st Set

Twist And Shout [Partial] ( Russell / Medley )  : The recording for this was even worst. This release was clearly out of the control of The Beatles. They surely wouldn't allow it if they have some say in it,

She's A Woman ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Ditto for this one.

I'm A Loser ( Lennon / McCartney ) : This recording was so bad that I can't even make out the introduction to this song, presuming by John Lennon.

Can't Buy Me Love ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Honesty, it's hard to listen to my favorite band sounding like this. There are times I can't even make out what they are singing.

Baby's In Black ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Sounds quite like the studio version to the boys' credits.

I Wanna Be Your Man ( Lennon / McCartney ) : The Beatles mumbling through their introduction to this song featuring Ringo. Honestly I wouldn't have known the different.

A Hard Day's Night ( Lennon / McCartney ) :  The sound recording is getting worst and worst with muffed sound admit the screams and the shouts. At times there even voices from the audience.

Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby ( Carl Perkins ) : Instrumentals are louder than the vocals.

Rock And Roll Music ( Chuck Berry ) : John's nod to Chuck Berry which he obviously enjoyed belting out.
I Feel Fine ( Lennon / McCartney ) : This is rather an assault to my ears. The performance is fine. The problem is in the recordings.

Ticket To Ride ( Lennon / McCartney ) : This one is so bad that if I haven't listen attentively I wouldn't have known it was The Beatles. Halfway through, it stalled for a brief while, can you believe that.

Long Tall Sally [ Partial ] ( Johnson / Penniman / Blackwell ) : Paul's rousing closer for most of their early concert but it lasted for only a few seconds. Thankfully.

THE  TEATRO  ADRIAN, ROME - 2nd Set

Twist And Shout [ Partial ] ( Russell / Medley ) : Really I feel that I am being tortured here.

She's A Woman ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Funny but there is no screaming here at all. The sound is still muffed.
I'm A Loser ( Lennon / McCartney ) : I could have made better recording. This one last again only a few seconds. It just trialed off.

The COW'S PALACE, SAN FRANCISCO

Twist And Shout [ Partial ] ( Russell / Medley ) : Just a snippets of the song.

I Wanna Be Your Man ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Ditto here and...

A Hard Day's Night [ Partial ] ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Ditto there. The one who decides to have this recorded and sold should be hung upside down for downright robbery.

Disc 2
CIRCUS, KRONE, BAU, MUNICH

Rock And Roll Music ( Berry ) : This version is at least bearable and I can make out what John is singing at times.

She's A Woman ( Lennon / McCartney ) :  This one is a no shower. Not on the CD at all.

Baby's In Black ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Uneven backing and sound recordings mauled this song.

I Feel Fine ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Not much different from the earlier versions.

Yesterday ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Paul's version here have a drum beat that was not on the studio version. Had the recording been a little bit better, this could be a hit version. Ah, well......

Nowhere Man ( Lennon / McCartney ) : My favorite Beatles song with introduction by a clowning John, but was murdered again by bad recording. John's vocal sounds more like a backing vocal rather than the main vocal.

I'm Down ( Lennon / McCartney ) : The closer to this part of the concert. Actually, I'm the one who's down tbrough listening to this bad recording.

GRUGAHALLE, ESSEN

Intro : More screaming.

Rock And Roll Music ( Berry ) : Just when I thought things couldn't possibly get any worst, I was proven wrong. This track sounds like it was recorded by an ancient tape recorder at a distance. The sound could barely be heard.

She's A Woman ( Lennon / McCartney ) : The same with this track. Honestly....

If I Needed Someone ( Harrison ) :  George's turn to torture me thought it's not his fault.

Day Tripper ( Lennon / McCartney ) : This one have the audience clapping along.

Baby's In Black ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Oh, my poor ears.....

I Feel Fine ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Only barely able to hear the opening of this fine song.

Yesterday ( Lennon / McCartney ) : This one is at least listenable due to the acoustic nature of the song and the need for less instrumental.

I Wanna Be Your Man ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Ringo this time singing like he's in the bathroom but not too bad actually.

Nowhere Man ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Total chaos and I don't mean the singing........

Paperback Writer ( Lennon / McCartney ) :  Paul McCartney mumbling something just before the song starts which I just can't figure out what.

I'm Down ( Lennon / McCartney ) :  More mumbling. I wonder why he bothers 'cos the audiences were there not to hear them sing or talk. There were there just to scream.

Paperback Writer [ with voice - over ] ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Some people talking in a foreign language that was actually quite clear with The Beatles in the background but was cut off abrutely.

ERUST MERCK HALLE, HAMBURG

Nowhere Man [ Partial ] ( Lennon / McCartney ) : A voice over a short snippet of the song.

Paperback Writer [ Partial ] ( Lennon / McCartney ) : Unlike the others, this was listenable too but as was mentioned only partial.

CLEAVE  STUDIO, ClEAVELAND
Long Tall Sally  [ Partial with voice - over ] ( Johnson / Penniman / Blackwell ) : A DJ or announcer talking most of the time with 'I Feel Fine' in the background, or could it be that the recording was so bad that I actually mistook 'Long Tall Sally' for 'I Feel Fine'.

SUFFOLK DOWNS RACKTRACK, BOSTON
Long Tall Sally [ Partial with voice - over ] ( Johnson / Penniman / Blackwell ) : The same as above only this time it's shorter ( Thanks God for that ) and actually with 'Long Tall Sally' in the background.

DOP : 31st August 2010.
